Know the enemy: Belmont Bruins

LOCATION:

Nashville, Tennessee

Honky-Tonk Capitol of America is the home of two OVC teams now as the Belmont Bruins have become the newest member of the conference. I could write for days about the city of Nashville but we all know what it is; neon lights, mediocre professional teams and tourists wearing Cowboy hats.

FAMOUS ALUMNI:

Did you know that Nashville was a popular place for country music? Yea and apparently some former Belmont students took the music business program very seriously.

Josh Turner, Lee Ann Womack, Brad Paisley are all Belmont Alums.

The newest Bruins to make it big on the country scene is the band Florida-Georgia Line. The most accurate review of these two "Country music stars" comes from savingcountrymusic.com

"Yet another entry on this list originating from Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records, which is ironic seeing how these two douchebags met at Borchetta’s cross-town rival’s namesake–Belmont University’s “Mike Curb College of Music.”
Florida Georgia Line is a horrible combination of Rascal Flatts pretty boy hyper-pop, and designer jeans Jason Aldean “backroad” laundry list bullshit. They are everything bad about quotation mark “country” in 2012 combined into one big stuffed crotch sandwich. Punctuating how pathetic “Cruise” is, is the fact that these two dudes apparently don’t know how to use punctuation. The first line of the song goes, “Baby you a song,” instead of, “Baby you’re a song.” But what else can you expect when the title of their EP is It’z Just What We Do. Yes, it’s one of those albums, blurring the lines between Ebonics and idiocracy. (read song review)"
Well then....

BASKETBALL ARENA

Although we won't play in it this year the Curb Event Center is a nice arena that holds about 5,000 people. Although Belmont rarely reaches that kind of attendance, it is still a nice looking arena. Almost a smaller version of the CFSB

ONE INTERESTING FACT

Former Murray State Athletics Director Mike Strickland, is now the AD at Belmont which might explain the similarities in venues when it comes to basketball.

The greatest thing about Murray, Kentucky is a steak sandwich that has two grilled cheese sandwiches for buns. Your "article" smacks of envy. And your basketball team is a mere shadow of last year's sensation.

"Although I will always bleed Kentucky blue my enrollment into Murray State University has given me a new collegiate team to pull for..."

So you cheer for two mediocre teams in mediocre conferences? Cool story. At least we have mediocre PROFESSIONAL teams. You have the.. Freedom Fest Celebration?

    1. And the reason I find this one the most comical is because I am both a Titans and Preds fan but lets be real the Titans have been mediocre for a while and although the Preds have been to the payoffs the last two years, I dont know if we're ready to consider them elite.

    2. And I'm not sure when we started considering National Champions and 31-2 teams mediocre. I know that was last season but it gave me a lot more to cheer about than the Titans or Preds ever have.

  3. Haha I happen to like Nashville and the surrounding areas (Franklin Brentwood etc). I complimented Belongs arena and clearly they are the team to beat in the OVC this year.

But you know, sometimes all it takes is one comment for someone to get their feelings hurt.

Why not about the actual Belmont team? That would help Murray to know their enemy better, and probably add some credibility to your tirade.

  7. Can we all agree that taking Austin Peay to overtime at home in the oh-so spectacular CFSB is the definition of mediocre? Or is Austin Peay really, really good and I'm just missing something? Help.

    1. The guy is a player, no doubt about it. Dexter Fields will have is hands full. Clark will get his, my hope is that Murray can contain the other four players on the floor to keep the game within striking distance.

Really glad he got wise and got the hell outa Murray.
