Know your enemy: Jacksonville State edition

Jacksonville State has hung in with some of the OVC elites. They lost to Belmont and EKU by the same score of 73-62. They dropped a tight one to TSU 66-60 in a game where Tennessee State shot over 57% from three.

Here is all you need to know about JSU.

Jacksonville, Alabama with a population of just over 12,000 it is a city known for Civil War sites and Cooter Browns Barbecue.

The lead singer of Alabama, Randy Owen, is a proud JSU Alum but the country music connections to this school do not end there. Jamey Johnson also is Jax State graduate. You think his beard looks cool in that picture, you should have seen it in color.

This freshman, Darian Rackley, has been racking (ha ha get it?) up the minutes for JSU. Playing over 30 minutes a game Rackley is averaging 14 points while shooting over 40% from downtown.

The player above is Tarvin Gaines. Tarvin is averaging over 14 points a game. He put in 28 points against Austin Peay on Thursday. On paper it appears he is the Gamecocks go to guy. Ed and the other Murray State interior players will have their work cut out for him tonight.

Another leading scorer for the Gamecocks goes by the name of Brian Williams. (No, not the Tennessee dope smoker) Williams averages right at 12 points per game this season. The Junior from Georgia chipped in 17 points against Austin Peay on Saturday.

Don't expect the crowd in Pete Matthews Coliseum to be much better than what we saw in Cookeville. 1,800 showed up to watch their Gamecocks pull of a 7 point victory over the Govs. Hopefully, the Racers do not give them anything to cheer about and come out with a blow out win for the first time in OVC play.

Jon Black will have a full preview later.
