However, there's a catch, the Racers don't have much depth at the linebacker position this year. Huzzie and Small will be the two returning starters this year, and they will anchor the defense. Only one other guy that saw significant playing time last year is back. If an injury occurs, the Racers will have to rely on linebackers who have not had much experience playing college football.
Qua Huzzie spent his first two year at the University of Kentucky. Last year, Huzzie came into Murray State, and made 80 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. The Racers will need him to step up again this year.
Sam Small led the team with 115 tackles last year. He had 9.5 tackles for loss, one point five sacks, and a quarterback hurry. He is expected to help Huzzie lead the defense again this year.

The rest of the linebackers have made a total of ten tackles during their collegiate careers. The linebackers are made up of five freshman, one sophomore, and a junior.
The Racers do have a sleeper in there. Corey Addison is a transfer out of South Carolina, and he could contribute right away. He is the only guy who has made a tackle at the college level. If he can step up, this will solve their issues with their bench not being very deep.
Overall, the Racers are okay at the linebacker position. If there are no injuries, then the Racers will be superb at the linebacker spot. If an injury occurs, Corey Addison will have to step up, because none of the other backups have every played a snap at the the collegeiate level.
The Racers will receive a B at the linebacker position. There's a lot of potential here, and the sky's the limit. If the Racers don't get injured, they should be just fine at the linebacker spot this year. Next week, we will break down the defensive backs.
