Murray State vs. Florida State Prediction
POSTED BY: Conor Revell
Why? Size is the reason the Racers will lose this game. Oh yes, the Seminoles are huge compared to the Racers. Their offensive line has 18 guys that are over 300 pounds. The Racers have two offensive linemen that are over 300 pound.
Fans may tell me that size doesn't matter. It does when the Racers had a problem with stopping the run last year. Four opponents were able to run for over 200 yards last year against Murray State. Don't be surprised if it happens again. However, in the end this game will end up being a tuneup for the Racers.
Offensively, the Racers may be able to score two or three touchdowns. Casey Brockman and company are really good. This should pump them up and motivate them for the rest of the season. Coach Hatcher can use this game to figure out what went wrong so that they can prepare for future opponents.
Special teams will need to be careful. With the Seminoles being larger and faster than the Racers, they will want to avoid a run-back or a blocked punt. Don't be surprised if the Seminoles can get to our punter. It happens, Florida State has some of the best players in the country.
In the end, Racer Nation needs to realize that Florida State is a tough opponent and that Murray State would be lucky to win one game if 100 games were played. Hatcher needs to make sure that this is a learning experience and to keep the players heads up if a disaster ensues.
My prediction is that Florida State will score early and often. Not being good at stopping the run will be downfall as the Seminoles will reel off several long runs early. Offensively, Brockman and company should be able to make it down into the redzone at least three times and put some points on the board. This should allow them to build momentum for their home opener against Central Arkansas.
Of course, take my prediction with a grain of salt. The Racers could pull an Appalachian State and shock the world.
Florida State: 63
Murray State: 21
