Fields is included in the weekly recruit profiles because we did not get to see him play last year as he sat out due to transferring. However, we heard a lot about Dexter last season. As fans, we heard he was the best shooter in practice and that in 2012 he would be be Murray State's biggest threat from behind the arc. To temper expectation some, I think it is fair to say that "practice stories" are fun to hear about but should be taken with a grain of salt.
What we know about the 6'2" guard from Orlando, is that he averaged over 5 points per game in his last season in a Blazer's uniform. He shot over 40% from the field and 37% from behind the line. We also know that his high school career ended on the most bittersweet of notes, scoring 31 points in a State Championship loss.
Dexter should provide Murray State with another good defensive weapon as well. From what I have seen, Fields is strong and athletic and as the quickness to stop dribblers from going around him.
Dexter Fields will receive plenty of playing time and if the expectations are met, he may be a huge catalyst in getting Murray State to that next level come March.
Racer fans be ready to see a whole lot of this next season:
