Belmont, Welcome to the OVC

Today is July 1st meaning that Belmont is officially a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Bruins will, without a doubt, be another challenging opponent for Murray State. Coming off back to back NCAA Tournament appearances the Bruins have the team again this year capable of making the "Big Dance" if Murray State doesn't repeat as Conference Tournament Champions.

The Bruins were ranked 4th in points per game last year, averaging an astounding 81.5. They were also 5th in assists per game and 17th in field goal percentage. Lead by senior Kerron Johnson who averaged over 13 points a game last year and Ian Clark who pitched in nearly 12 points a game. Containing these two obviously isn't an easy task.

Moving from the Atlantic Sun Conference, Belmont will give Murray State everything they want and then a little extra. Since the OVC is a one-bid league, Belmont is a team who worries me a great deal. Although I have been saying the Racers could have a better team this year, the Bruins have the talent this year to upend the Racers for the OVC crown. The good news, the Racers will get Belmont at the CFSB Center for the first game and then again on a neutral court at Municipal Auditorium for the OVC Championship game, (although that should feel like a home game for the Nashville natives)

Belmont will give the OVC a little more legitimacy and should help boost Murray's strength of schedule, even if just a tiny bit. Here's what I know for sure though, The Bank will be rockin' when they come to town.
