Southern Illinois All-Stars Hang On to Beat Western Kentucky In Most Thrilling Game of Series.

The annual football game between the all-stars of Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky took place for the 8th time this past Friday at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray and this was, without question, the most exciting the series has seen. With only seconds remaining Southern Illinois did all they could to run out the clock leading by six, yet, due to mental mistakes, gave WKY the ball back near the fifty yard line with 3 seconds to play allowing the opportunity for the incredible to happen. The Southern Illinois fans, obnoxiously, stood and chanted "618!" however it would be the fans in blue that would be cheering after the play was over. WKY connected on a fifty-three yard hail mary as time expired. Fans, coaches and players swarmed the field in celebration. Yet, they were asked to retreat as the referees consulted. A sigh of relief was granted to the folks wearing maroon when the TD was taken away on off-setting penalties of pass interference. (Which was weird because no flags were thrown.) WKY would be given one last chance to do the unimaginable, yet the ball was deflected into the air before falling innocently to the ground. The game ended with Southern Illinois on top 27-21.

Western Kentucky had their chances and had the lead late in the 4th quarter before Southern Illinois took the lead on a 46 yard touchdown pass. Souther Illinois now take a team game lead in the series at 5-3.
