Omaha is Set

The final eight teams are ready to kick things off in Omaha, Nebraska for the 2012 College Baseball World Series. The most interesting has to be Stony Brook who upset LSU in the super regionals to advance. South Carolina enters for the third straight year after winning it all in their past two trips.

The state of Kentucky, who got two teams into the tournament (UK and UL), will  not be represented as both the Wildcats and the Cardinals failed to win their region, both losing in the Regional Championship game. The Cards were unable to "raise L" versus Arizona as the Cats tromped them 8 to 1. Kentucky found themselves in a pitchers duel against Kent State in their Regional Championship before giving up a three run controversial  home run in the top of the 8th. The Wildcats lost 3-2. The loss came after UK bounced back after a first game loss to Kent St in a game that went 21 innings and saw the Cats flounder opportunities to score, including a bases loaded-one out scenario, in which Kentucky grounded into a 1-2-3 double play in the 19th.

Our rivals from Clarksville, TN made it to the Regional championship as well before falling to Oregon. The Govs from Austin Peay surprised many after blanking Indiana State and Fullerton in back to back games. The OVC representatives, however, were outscored by the Ducks 14-6 combined, in the two meetings.

The games will begin on Friday at 4 PM CT on ESPN2 with Stony Brook facing Florida State in a must watch game.
