Every Week or so here at MKYSports we would like to inform RacerNation on how their alumni are doing in the sports world. Today we look at two pitchers who graduated from Murray State, Daniel Calhoun and Mike Perconte. Calhoun started his first season in the Frontier League hurling for the Southern Illinois Miners. The southpaw from Evansville, Indiana has thrown in 17.2 innings thus far striking out 15 batters and posting an ERA of 5.09. Although Daniel has given up 10 runs in 4 games, he still has the edge on the Win-Loss count at 2-1. In his most recent appearance versus the Florence Freedom, Calhoun went 4 and 2/3rds innings surrendering 5 runs on 10 hits and striking out 5 in a 7-4 loss.
Mike Perconte started his 5th season of professional baseball this year also in the Frontier League but since has started playing for the Gary Southshore RailCats in the American Associations Independent League. Perconte started his professional career in the Chicago Cubs organization playing in Single-A Boise, Peoria and Daytona for three years before being traded into the Houston Astros organization. He has a career ERA of 4.42 and a total of 15 wins and 7 losses.
