Murray State's Alexis Love's Olympic Dreams came to an end tonight, sadly. But, Racer Nation should still be proud of what Love accomplished. Most of us can only dream of having a chance to make the preliminaries let alone the Olympics.
Love did more than that. She made it to the semifinals of the 200 meter run at the USA Olympic Track & Field Trials at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. Tonight, Love ran 23.10 seconds from lane two.
That was better than her 23.15 time that got her into the semifinals. She came in 6th in her heat which, unfortunately, wasn't good enough to move on to the finals.
The only chance Love had of making the finals and keeping her Olympic dream with that time would have been if she had the second fastest time out of the next 18 runners. Unfortunately, that did not happen. The last qualifier of the finals was Central Florida's Aurieyall Scott who had a time of 22.56.
Love also made it to the semifinals of the 100 meter run before she was eliminated.
Racer Nation should be proud of Alexis Love even though she didn't make it to the finals. Love should also be proud of herself. She was voted the OVC Female Track Athlete of the Year. She was one of only five semifinalists that are still student-athletes. There were 18 semifinalists. The other 13 competitors are finished with college and are competing full time.
What a great season Alexis had. Love still has one more season with the Racers and we know that she will do great things again next year
